Sultana Savvi

Sultana Savvi was born in Sklithro, Greece. She came to Switzerland with her family when she was 11. First she completed a commercial apprenticeship. Only later did she devote herself fully to art. She studied art education at the Zurich University of the Arts, where she also received her bachelor's degree. A few years later she completed her master's degree in visual design at the Zurich University of Education.

In 2003 she had her first exhibition in Zurich. Coming from abstract painting, she works in many layers, enriches the color material with sand and pigments and thus achieves a picture structure of haptic sensuality. The element of water is present in her works both in terms of content and technology. In her multi-layered work process, she sometimes washes off the paint that has not yet dried from her pictures and lets them emerge again. Although pure abstraction is always in the foreground at the beginning, when a work is completed, the surface gains spatial depth and the view opens up to a landscape.

The picture itself becomes a spiritual and mental journey, the destination of which is not predetermined, but is determined by the viewer themselves.
